How To: Neutral & Pastel Bridesmaids Dresses

Color is such an important factor when making decisions about your wedding – everything from flowers and table settings to smaller details such as escort cards revolve around it. During the ceremony it is the bridesmaids dresses where the color theme of your wedding is most prominently reflected to your guests. So what if you’ve chosen a more neutral palette for your big day? How do you incorporate this into the bridesmaids dresses while still keeping your ceremony visually exciting?

In a recent Monique Lhuillier runway show we see beautiful examples of bridesmaids dress designs in gold, silver, ivory and gray. While the color is kept simple and elegant, it is the texture that makes them exciting with draping, pleats, ruching and cascading “feathers“.

Actress and model Molly Sims brought to life her beige and black themed bridal party by having each bridesmaid wear her own unique dress, each a variegating shade of beige, and even utilizing print and accessories like belts to keep each look fresh.

Having a neutral palette for your wedding doesn’t mean you must limit yourself to beige, black and white, though! When actress and style-maven Rachel Bilson served as bridesmaid in her best friend Jill Stonerock’s wedding, she looked stunning in muted pistachio while her fellow bridesmaids wore other lovely shades of green ranging from mint to sage. Fresh bouquets of lavender brought in an additional pop of color while still keeping the overall look earthy and ethereal.

Often times we think of neutral and pastel color palettes as being limiting, sometimes even boring. The truth is, though, that when these palettes are used correctly – with attention to variation of shades, texture and detail, perhaps with just the right pop of color in the bouquet or an accessory – they are quite simply and beautifully elegant!

At any wedding, the aisle runner is a focal decoration during the ceremony. But who says all aisle runners have to be plain and white? Sure, we’ve all seen the couple’s monograms on the aisle runners or the rose petals sprinkled everywhere. But why not try an alternative option?

I’ve been receiving a lot of questions about the Asian dessert bar we created for Tiffany & Josh’s wedding… so here is “how to make your dessert table stand out” for those of you who wanted to know.

First, we begin by choosing a theme which should be easy based on your overall wedding theme. Then we want to make sure that we have a variety of desserts so we can please as many guests as possible, add the colors that match the wedding color scheme and accentuate bride & groom’s favorite dessert to make it personal and fun. Lastly, we spice up with some creative elements such as signs or a little notes explaining why the couple chose these sweets, props and linen, etc… then the rest will be history. I’m sure if you follow this recipe, your dessert bar will stand out and excite your guests.

- Variety Japanese rice cookies (Easily found at any Asian market such as Mitsuwa)

- Mini fondant cakes “The Nigiri Set Sushi” (We custom ordered)

- Monaka (Red bean cookies) – Individually wrapped with our stationery paper

- Green tea cupcakes

- Japanese Mochi & Korean rice cakes

- Props to enhance the look

A Midnight Snack

After the delicious dinner, and hours of dancing and celebrating, you guests will start to get hungry again! A big trend among brides right now is to serve a “midnight snack” as the party winds down. Tie in you and your fiance’s favorite late night treat, whether it is burgers or donuts and serve your guests in style!

Consider ordering out to a restaurant in the area such as nacho bar from Taco Bell, mini sliders from Umami burgers, or donuts from Krispy Kremes. Provide doggy bags for your guests to grab and go in case they are on their way out. No matter what you decide, your guests will love the gesture and chow down on the food on their way home!
